Reflection On Leonard Ravenhill

Reflection On Leonard Ravenhill

This British evangelist died in 1994. But what he wrote about the role of prophets in general, and Jesus the Prophet Rabbi in particular, is unforgettable and eminently quotable:

  • A prophet is forthright and outright, but he claims no birthright.
  • A prophet is the villain of today and the hero of tomorrow.
  • A prophet is excommunicated while alive and exalted when dead.
  • A prophet is dishonored with epithets when breathing and honored with epitaphs when dead.
  • A prophet is friendless while living and famous when dead.
  • A prophet is against the establishment in ministry; then is established as a saint by posterity.
  • A prophet eats daily the bread of affliction while he ministers, but he feeds the Bread of Life to those who listen.
  • A prophet faces God before he faces anyone else, but is self-effacing personally.
  • A prophet hides with God in the secret place, but has nothing to hide in the marketplace.
  • A prophet is ordained of God but disdained by men.
